Event Recap: Highlights from the Inaugural Wei Ming-Kuang Prize Briefing Session

The briefing session for the Inaugural Wei Ming-Kuang Prize was held on November 7th. The event was enthusiastically hosted at the National Chengchi University Public Center for Business and Management Education (NCCU CPBAE) and was simultaneously streamed online. It successfully drew nearly 30 attendees from major media organizations and the field of journalism practice. Including the first online session held on October 28th, the two events combined reached nearly 60 journalists and communication professionals, demonstrating the widespread public interest in Taiwan’s journalism environment and professional development.

Organized by the Office of the Wei Fund for Educational and Journalistic Excellence, the session featured a comprehensive introduction to the Prize’s founding philosophy, mission, and evaluation criteria. Detailed explanations were also provided regarding application eligibility, competition categories, and the submission system. Through this Prize, the Fund office aims to foster public discourse and media innovation, allowing professional journalism to thrive within a more supportive and trusted environment.

The atmosphere at the venue was vibrant, with attendees actively participating in Q&A sessions and engaging in deep discussions regarding application regulations, work categories, and judging mechanisms. The Fund office also shared the core motivation behind establishing the award—to serve as a bridge that consolidates industry strength and cultivates a news culture rooted in public mission and innovative spirit.

The Wei Ming-Kuang Prize is more than just an honorary recognition of professional excellence; it is envisioned as a catalyst for driving reform in Taiwanese journalism, fostering social trust, and promoting professional growth. As the call for submissions begins, we look forward to seeing more works on this platform that demonstrate depth, courage, and public spirit, collectively shaping a healthier and more influential media ecosystem.
